Now that 2016 is FINALLY over, we can move on to 2017, which will hopefully be much better than 2016. New Years calls for those pesky resolutions you'll make and probably forget about by February. Whoops. The one resolution that I dislike the most, however, is the resolution titled, "new year new me". I feel that it's absolutely absurd, and here's why.
1. Unless you've been a really, really, REALLY awful person this year, there's no need to change your whole self for the new year.
...and chances are you haven't been that awful anyway.
2. There's really no need to change your entire self.
It's absolutely ridiculous. There may be small tiny things about your lifestyle that you'd like to change, but that's not completely changing yourself.
3. You should never want to change anything about you because of the pressure of the "new year resolution" phase everyone tries to compete with.
While new years resolutions mean well and have the best intentions at heart, don't feel that need to change something about yourself, especially your whole self, due to the new year.
4. The odds of you sticking with a resolution to change your entire self are pretty slim.
I mean, the chances of people sticking with a resolution for more than 3 months is hard, let alone a resolution to change your entire self.
5. Where would you even begin?
When you say, "new year, new me", do you by some chance have this long list of things you feel the need to change about yourself? I just can't imagine someone hating so much about themselves that they really feel that need to change their whole selves, let alone stick with it.
So maybe the expression shouldn't be taken so literally, and it just means to change one thing about yourself that you don't really like. However, I feel that the expression gives a negative vibe to resolutions and to the person making the said resolution. New Year resolutions should be fun, and shouldn't have such a negative connotation. So if you really feel that need to make a resolution or two this year, make them ones you know you can keep, or at least ones that aren't very complicated. Make a resolution to be nicer to everyone, to give back more, eat less fast food, drink more water, whatever you'd like. Just make sure it's a resolution you'll enjoy carrying out. Make 2017 memorable and the best it could be.
