It's time for a new hot take and this week it's about the most mind-boggling show on television today, Westworld. Being that the season two finale premiers on Sunday, I felt that it was necessary to share the take I have been testing out for this whole second season. Here it is: although Westworld is not even through two seasons, there is potential for HBO's newest show to end up besting Game of Thrones for the title of best television show ever created.
Before the diehard Thrones fans start coming at my neck, let me just articulate how this take developed. As someone who has watched both shows, I am not about to start saying Thrones is better than Westworld.... yet. But there is the potential for Westworld to soon take over the reigns as the best show ever created. Of course, for this take to work you also have to think that Game of Thrones is the best TV show ever made (which it undoubtedly is).
The main premise of my take is that through nearly two seasons of Game of Thrones, Westworld has simply been intriguing to a higher degree I have ever experienced, more exciting and the hype for the next episode every Sunday is more than that of Thrones.
Every person who has heard this take has brought up the argument that Thrones and Westworld are two different types of shows and it takes longer to develop the backstories of each character in Thrones. But I always counter with the fact that if you were watching both shows at the same time, you would definitely be more excited for every episode of Westworld. Not to mention, Westworld has so many characters that they have introduced but never fully explored yet.
With all that has happened in Westworld, it's hard to imagine the show getting more wild than it already is. I mean...the ending of season two episode eight... my jaw was literally on the floor. That ending to season TWO episode EIGHT had the equivalent late episode excitement that a season six Thrones episode typically has. That is hard to come by in a show that still so early on.
For me, the fact that Westworld actually a chance to get progressively better and crazier is astonishing. I can't help but say the potential for the show to go to even different levels makes Westworld in prime position to take over the aforementioned throne.
