Thanksgiving is such an important holiday. It is the only time of year where Americans say they will spend an entire day being thankful. Most of them end up going out and buying a whole bunch of stuff they certainly don't need because everything they were thankful for the day before apparently wasn't enough.
This is one of the holidays that has many standard traditions, yet, sometimes they are unattainable... Here is for those who just might be alone on Thanksgiving...
Here are some ideas for a "new" Thanksgiving for the people who can't have the traditional holiday:
1. Volunteer
This one is by far my favorite, there are so many ways to transcend yourself and make someone's day just a little better. I have often heard the phrase "what you have, someone is praying for". There is no end to how beautiful helping another person is. It can remind you at a deep level of what you have to be thankful.
You can volunteer at your local church, homeless shelter, non-profit, or you can do a simple google search to find volunteer opportunities.
For those located in Wichita here are some ideas:

2. Relax
Sit at home, snuggle up with a book, dog, or even person...
You could take advantage of finally being close enough to not shamefully watch Christmas movies or listen to some Christmas tunes
If you are like my mom, always cold to the bone, you can even utilize this as an excuse to start up that fireplace of yours.
3. Catch up
You can use this day, for what you need it to be.. you can catch up on WHATEVER. Personally, I am going to sit at home for most of the day catching up on homework by myself. Yet, some people might just take the day to be thankful for the opportunity to catch up on what we are almost all lacking... SLEEP
4. Friends-Giving
If you think you're the only one alone.. I guarantee you, that is very unlikely... Especially if you are an out-of-state college student, there are plenty more of those students who would LOVE to have a Friendsgiving dinner...
5. Go on a "You Day"
Embrace the beauty of being alone for a hot minute. You can do something you have always wanted to but never had anyone to go with... You are an amazing person, go as your OWN date.
Here are some ideas for your YOU date day:
- Go to the movie you're slightly embarrassed to see
- Get Pampered
- Go to a museum you have always wanted to see
- Go on a small day trip to a small town, or just drive around listening to your favorite music
- Pop open your bottle of wine (fake, of course), and blast your music and dance around your house
- Any-darn-thing your little heart desires
I hope you all enjoy any type of Thanksgiving you are planning on having. I hope you remember all the beautiful things to be thankful for!
Please never feel bad if you are alone...
