Focus On The New Optimistic You In 2017
Deirdre Leighton

SO obviously the new year is approaching, which is when we all finally say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017.

The best way to create a 2.0 of yourself is to evaluate the worst and best parts of yourself and your current situations. Honestly I am a mess and I frequently create a new years list and of course never follow through with it. However, this list is basically just an inspirational way to keep your mind focused on the upcoming year and hopefully say goodbye to some negative facts you hold about yourself.

First on the list is what I just said:

1. Release the negative thoughts you hold about yourself.

Do not believe all the negative things you tell yourself at night. Stop thinking you're a mess. Try and become the person you admire. Start off with positive energy and thoughts, which I know is easier said then done, but when done it really does make a difference.

2. Embrace yourself

Do not validate yourself. Embrace yourself. Be you. Who cares what others think. Do not tiptoe around others, but also be aware of others and your relationships.

3. Build Up Exisitng Relationships

Maybe you've had one bad break up or five, but the point is to rebound and focus on the relationships that are actually part of your life from the past and for years to come. You know who the most important people are in your life and you can start to see who will be in your life for years to come. Therefore, focus on building up those relationships you can't live without and those people who can't live without you.

4. Good Things Take Time

Hey activity here. Look back to two years ago. Are you proud of how far you made it? yes? good activity complete. Keep thinking you're amazing because you are. No? Well be proud you're alive and breathing that says you've survived. YOU have done whatever you have possibly could have done to survive and create yourself whether in a good or bad way. Just know that good things take time in two years time you may be proud of how far you have come.

5. Say goodbye to the bad memories.

Say goodbye to the bad memories that keep you up at night and focus on the memories that make you cry with laughter.

6. Laugh

Laughter really is the best medicine. Just try and promise yourself to at least laugh one time a day in the new year, even if its at yourself. Watch a funny video or impractical jokers. Or even think of the memories that you hold so dear, as stated above, that will make you laugh so hard your stomach will ache.

7. Be Healthy

No I'm not talking about having a green smoothie every morning or running that half marathon in the spring. I'm thinking more about mental and emotional health. If mental and emotional health are in check then your physical health will improve and therefore be an all around healthier person. Just take time for yourself. Take time to be you. Read your favorite book on the New York Times Best Ssellers. Finish that activity you always meant to start when you found it on Pinterest. Essentially, JUST BREATHE yourself in.

8. Don't Let Your Guilt Feed You

So what you didn't wake up in time for work, again. Don't make yourself feel so guilty that you probably become even later for work by freaking out about being late. DO NOT FREAK. Okay well freak and have your fit for 5 minutes then shake it off and do what you need to do and be proud that you rebounded from a near mental breakdown.

9. Say Hello

Say hello to other people out on the street. Say hello to those that look like they may need a helping hand. Say hello to opportunities you cannot miss. Say hello to the new friends you may make in the new year. Say hello to views that you have and hold them dear no matter what they may seem to others. Say hello to that brilliant face in the mirror that you need to appreciate without the validation of anyone else.

10. Embrace The Chaos.

Yes, life is messy. It's horrible at times. However, embrace it. Embrace the chaos and live in it. Chaos is the only way that your soul can expand. You cannot grow in only perfect happy times. One needs hard times in order to test their limits. Limits are what progress the path of a person. In other words, progress breeds challenge and challenge is a synonym of Chaos. Chaos can transform weaknesses into strengths. Strengths that make a beautiful person.

HOPEFULLY, my inspirational vibe fed into those that are reading this and I hope it helps those that have read it as much as it has helped me put my life into perspective while writing it.

BUT say goodbye to 2016. Say hello to the new view you may be able to access now for the upcoming 2017.

Think Optimistically and enjoy 2017.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
