Throughout recent years Women empowerment has become extraordinarily large. Women have collectively come together to create a better and stronger name for them. In a recent article from CNN yet another woman revolution was born.
The Miss Teen USA pageant has constantly been the idea to some that young pretty girls show off their bodies just to gain scholarships. Today, the pageant world takes a phenomenal turn in a very realistic direction.
The organization is discontinuing the swimsuit portion of the pageant and an athletic wear competition will take over. This is revolutionary for the “Girl World," world more because it is a reflection of the modern era we are living in today.
"This decision reflects an important cultural shift we're all celebrating that empowers women who lead active, purposeful lives and encourage those in their communities to do the same," Miss Universe president Paula Shugart wrote in a memo to the pageant's state directors.
With this change the pageant world hopes to show not only the women involved how strong and powerful they are, but also to viewers they are more than just beautiful women in swimsuits.
Not only does this show the world how the pageant world is changing, but so does the most recent Miss USA winner Deshauna Barber she is a former Army Reserve officer. The question for winning the pageant that set her apart from the other contestants was perfect.
“The Pentagon recently made the decision to open up all combat jobs to women. Some have questioned whether this has put political correctness over our military’s ability to perform at the highest level. What are your thoughts?’
Barber replied,“ As a commander of my unit I am powerful. I am dedicated and it is important that we recognize that gender does not limit us in the United States Army.”
This is yet another stepping stone to indicating that women are a force to be reckoned with. There have been an abundance of break throughs for females within in this era and it can only go up from here.
