So maybe you’ve been out of the punk rock scene for a while, but let’s face it, there’s nothing like a good old Blink-182 song. I think we can all admit to missing the feeling of “First Date” or “All The Small Things” coming on the radio and the Even though Blink released their new album, California, in July of 2016 many people argue the sound just isn’t the same without Tom DeLonge behind the vocals and guitar.
While the band’s fan base still very much loyal and alive, many punk rock/pop lovers are looking for similar bands to replicate the upbeat feel-good sound Blink is notorious for. But now, thanks to the formation of a new Blink inspired band, a UK based punk pop band named Neck Deep, seems to be reviving the magic that Blink once brought to our lives.
Since the band’s formation in 2012, Neck Deep has attracted quite a bit of attention from Blink fans all over the world. Similar to the instrumental and lyrical genius of Blink, Neck Deep gives the genre a fresh perspective while keeping to punk rock roots.
Most songs orient themselves around painful breakups, the struggle of moving on, and most other teenage coming of age experiences we know all too well. The lyrics are incredibly relateable and boast an originality that keeps you hitting that repeat button over and over. Currently, the band has 2 EP’s and 3 full-fledged albums to their name that have landed them on an international tours with bands such as State Champs, Knuckle Puck, and have performed at Warped Tour as well.
As of last year the band released an album entitled “Life’s Not Out to Get You” which proved to show a change in the traditional perspective of the genre, offering a more positive upbeat outlook on punk stereotypes such as moving away from your hometown, the struggle to fit in, and the tragedy of having to grow up. Neck Deep instead shows an appreciation for their roots and embraces the power of individuality instead of making it seem lonely.
