Anyone ever think, what's the point of including coins as part of the United States currency system anymore?
At this point, coins are just a nuisance to everyday life. Every time I buy something with cash and receive change back I am immediately annoyed. What am I supposed to do with this 17 cents, Karen? The answer is absolutely nothing.
One of the things that ticks me off the most is when I pull out my wallet and all the change I reluctantly put inside comes tumbling out. Once that happens it just becomes a disaster when everyone looks at you waiting to see if you'll pick up the change or just leave it on the ground. And that matters a lot to me because whether or not you pick up the coins says a lot about a person. If you don't pick up the coins you just look like you expect that someone else is going to pick up the things you drop on the floor. But on the other hand, if you make it seem like you didn't see or hear the coins fall it makes for useful purging of the coins that you already didn't want in your wallet.
If anything, we definitely need to get rid of the penny. Don't get me wrong, I think we should figure out a way to get rid of all coins. But the penny literally costs more to make than it is worth. How does it make any logical sense for the government to produce coins that literally loses it money every single time one enters circulation. Has anyone checked the national debt recently? We can't afford to be wasting money away on pennies that nobody likes and is nowhere near efficient.
Honestly, nowadays with cryptocurrencies and every new variation of it that comes out, you can't tell me that there's not a way that we can split up a dollar into smaller denominations without using coins. It's the twenty-first century in the United States of America folks; we can do better than having to carry around a bunch of thin metal rings in our pockets as if they were gold dubloons.
It's just about time we take one of our archaic traditions and give it the boot for good. Paper bills, don't feel too safe, you'll be out the door before you know it.
