The Power of Music

Music is the universal healer

I cannot play an instrument with perfect consistency and I cannot sing a perfect harmony in tune, but music is perfect for me. I am unable to comprehend the challenges of musical notes and I rend powerless to the vast vocabulary of the average musician, but music powers me through and allows me to comprehend the struggles that accompany life. Music is an all-powerful tool that allows humanity to communicate its feelings. Music is expression. Music brings people together. After all my failures and letdowns I feel hopeless, but after these plethora of problems, one thing remains constant: music. I allow music to rush through my veins, flow through my body, and rejuvenate my soul. My inexpensive, tattered, pale white, earphones may seem irrelevant to most, but to me they are a supernatural force that allow me to revive myself after the most difficult of struggles. Whether it be hip-hop, contemporary, rap, or even jazz, I focus solely on the lyrics, washing away everything else from my congested train-of-thought. This may only provide for temporary healing, but for me, that is all I need. Since all I need is a way to escape the great unknown, life, for a brief period of time, therefore I can move on from all the negatives that happened before I wedge my earphones into the source of all my hearings. My earphones act as an ocular cleansing because from that moment on, all the negatives are erased, and I can just think about the positives of the great opportunity that is life and the fantastic moments that are to come. Everyone should utilize the tool of music, no matter how bad you are at playing an instrument or singing. Because, as Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “Without music, life would be a mistake.”

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
