With West Chester’s ferocious winter behind us it’s time to take advantage of the marvelous spring weather. If you’re seeking wilderness adventures to occupy your days until summer vacation rolls around then scour no further.


Pinnacle Point & Pulpit Rock - Albany Township, PA

This roughly 9 mile circuit joins forces with the appalachian trail to bring you absolutely stunning views of the Lehigh Valley. With elevations of about 1,300 feet this trail starts off as a rocky ascend up to Pulpit Rock. From that point onward you’ll find the rest of the hike to be fairly smooth and easily navigable. Pinnacle point is the main focus out of the two formations because of its prime location perched perfectly off of the trail and provides the better view. Take the time to relax, unwind, and enjoy nature for all its bliss as it’s truly invigorating.

Distance: 1 Hour 20 Minutes

Ricketts Glen State Park - Benton, PA


The main appeal of this state park is the jaw dropping Falls Trail System. This winding trail cradles the curves and descents of over 22 waterfalls! The tallest of them all being Ganoga falls at 94 foot. These roaring waterways aren’t just for looking, be sure to dive into a few of the natural pools and climb under the falls for a quick lunch if you want the full Ricketts Glen experience. There’s also plenty of opportunities to take stunning photographs!

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area + Bushkill falls - Bushkill, PA

Situated on the northeastern border of Pennsylvania and New Jersey this hike will appear to be transporting you into a far off wonder. This park is home to both Mt. Minsi and Mt. Tammany which offer unique sights respectively. With the main trail on Mt. Tammany the beginning portion is fairly steep and rocky but once you’re at the top this hike presents three main lookouts that hang off the cliff's edge. If you’re courageous enough to take a seat 1,526 feet of the ground the Delaware River can be spectated for miles as it serpentines down into the horizon.

Worlds End State Park - Forksville, PA

You’ll have to wake up at the crack of dawn for this day hike but the opportunities this park offers will keep you plenty busy. There are numerous trails of all varieties scattered across the mountains jutting the landscape which make for beautiful views at every turn. This park also features a large river which flows through the middle of the property and is used for activities like whitewater boating and offers a large swimming hole at the base of Loyalsock Creek Dam. Be sure to pack your camera along for this hike too as each portion of this hike will be sure please the aesthetic eye.

Marsh Creek State Park - Downingtown, PA

If you’re looking for a tranquil spot to kick back after classes or enjoy the amenities of being lakefront then Marsh Creek is the place for you. Located a short drive from the university this park hosts a large lake that allows boating and fishing along with a large loop for walking which makes it wonderful for afternoon exercise. With most of the area untouched except for a few recreational sections you’ll have no worries finding your very own peace and privacy.

French Creek State Park - Elverson, PA


Similar to the layout of Marsh Creek, this park takes it to the next level by operating a full scale historical site that used to house as industrial complex back in the 1800’s. The massive 7,730 acre park contains hiking trails that weave through lush forests, two swim-friendly lakes, and sprawling wetlands. The trails range in difficulty but are great for beginners and offer many stops along the way to educated guests on the lands history.

Bake Oven Knob - Germansville, PA


This outlook is a gem on the Pennsylvania portion of the appalachian trail. The beginning of this hike is fairly short but upon approaching the knob it provides the one of the greatest views out all of all the parks and outlooks on this list. The range of sight is absolutely expansive, making it appear you’re on the edge of the universe. This spot also features a playground of boulders and other rock formations for your climbing enjoyments. Be sure to take your time and check out all the smaller tributaries of trails this outlook basin offers.
