The football season is a little more than halfway done and it seems like the football season is leaving faster than when it arrived. Football is the only sport that I can watch two teams that I have no loyalty to and still have fun. Probably because I'm a big fan of fantasy football. No matter what game I'm watching I usually can focus on one player on that team, and cheer them on. There's another side to this coin, though. As much as I love fantasy football, it can be extremely frustrating. Here are just a few examples.
1. When you have the 2nd highest scoring fantasy day in your league, but you play the person who scored the most that day.
I can't tell you how bonkers something like this makes me. You score big, you think you're going to win, then the fantasy gods rip your win away. Your joy and excitement turn into misery and sadness. The worst part about this whole thing is that all you had to do was PLAY ANYONE ELSE and you would've won. Literally anyone else.
2. When your first round pick doesn't live up to expectations.
Your first round pick, in theory, should be your safest bet. There's a reason why everybody wants that person early. He's consistent and in some weeks could single-handedly win you a game. Maybe this guy could even save you from a bad week when a couple of players aren't doing so hot one week. Your savior isn't supposed to be your downfall. When your first round pick is losing you games instead of winning you, it's disheartening because give or take a few players, you had the rest of the NFL to choose from and you chose this guy.
3. When your opponent plays someone who isn't good and has a good week.
Ever have this happen to you? The person you're playing that week might have an injury, they didn't draft well, or has a few players on bye, and you're thinking to yourself, well I got this in the bag, and then you don't. The backup to the backup scores three touchdowns and gets your opponent 25 points and they win. The worst part is after that game, that same player never scores more than five points at any point during the rest of the season.
4. When the players you trade for get hurt.
You've been wheeling and dealing for a few days trying to get your target player(s) you've been eyeing for weeks now, and after hard-fought negotiations, you and the other player reach an agreement. You're so happy, you think this might push you over the edge and get you that playoff spot, and then they get hurt. If you're doing a multi-person trade there's usually one person you put above the rest, and it's always that person that gets hurt. What it essentially means is you gave away some players to another person for free, and that just feels bad, man.
5. When someone gets a Monday Night Miracle on you.
This one maybe isn't the worst of the worst because when you get a Monday night miracle it's the best thing ever, but when it happens to you it's devastating. You're up big heading into the Monday night and the person you're playing against has their whole week riding on one person that's playing in the Monday Night Football game. You think you're going to win, and then that one player fulfills everything that your opponent hoped and prayed would happen. He got enough points to beat you. You were up by 15 and the person got 16. Whatever the score is, it stings. It stings because the feeling of victory was snatched from the jaws of defeat at the very last second.
The worst part about this list is that it's all things that are out of your control, and maybe that's the most awful part of it all. You can plan, research, and put yourself in the best position to win week in and week out, but sometimes Fantasy Football has other plans for you.
