The best part of your day is putting on your makeup. Being able to transform with different pigments makes your heart flutter thinking about it. The realization that you have a problem begins with acceptance. Thousands of dollars spent on your addiction has consumed your life. But when is the exact moment you that you know you are addicted?

1. You cry a little bit when you hit the pan on any eyeshadow.

Let’s face it, the most dramatic thing to happen in makeup is when you see the metal pan. You know the end is coming and have no way to prevent it. You look online to try and replace your dying eyeshadow color, hoping that the company did not discontinue it.

2. You get excited whenever new makeup drops, and feel the need to get it.

Going to Sephora or Ulta when new makeup comes out makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. You see the pretty packaging and feel the need to buy it even though you know you need to buy school books or pay rent. Nothing will stop you from taking the product to the register, feeling the joy of buying it, and finally walking out of the door with a tiny bag full of new goodies.

3. You own several makeup palettes just because.

Stacks of palettes litter your room; some you never use but at some point had the urge to buy it. We all know we only stick to the one neutrals palette but when Kat Von D or Too Faced dropped that palette it was instantly in our online shopping cart. Now you own over 20 eyeshadow palette hoping at some point the right moment will come when you can wear that blue shimmer eyeshadow.

4. Whenever Sephora has a sale, you come home with several hundred dollars worth of makeup.

Sephora almost never has a sale but when they do you get your credit card ready. Those single eyeshadows are half off and the all-important makeup brushes prices have been slashed. You run through the store with a smile on your face as your grab anything and everything that has a reduced price. Once you seem content with the amount of products in your hands you go to the register, only to realize you spent more than you wanted. But, hey, they were on sale.

5. Taking off your false lashes is the best part of your day.

Lashes. The one thing that makes your makeup look feel incomplete if you do not have them on. They are heavy, itchy and very uncomfortable, but you wear them anyway. The best part of wearing them is that you get to take them off! The relief you feel as you look in the mirror as you slowly peel them off. You see the glue try to cling to your lash line but it is probably the most satisfying thing that has happened to you all day.

6. Your winged eyeliner is sharp enough to slay your enemies.

Making sure you have the perfect point on your liner makes you feel in control. The sharp edge may take you five minutes just to perfect but it is all worth it when you get a compliment from someone else. The point it literally sharp enough to jump off your face and fight the battles the day has in store for you.

7. You make sure you get that “free” gift during online purchases.

Almost every online makeup store has the free gift once you spend a certain amount of money. Whether it is $5, $20, or $100 you try your hardest to get that free gift. Was it worth spending all the money on makeup to receive that free lipstick? Of course, it was, you got all new makeup and that new lipstick was free!

8. Doing your makeup is a huge distresser.

Some days you just do not feel like yourself, so you turn to makeup. Just being able to sit down in front of a mirror and begin to do your makeup make you feel so much better. It relieves all the built up stress from your day. With each swipe of your brush, each pump of foundation that you put on your face, you feel relaxed. No matter the issue doing your makeup makes us feel ourselves.

9. You try all the new makeup trends not matter how ridiculous they are.

Highlight and contour, baking, dotting foundation, and so much more. You have no idea if half of the trends look good on your skin, but you do them anyway. You are always looking for new ways to do your makeup. The trends keep changing, and you start getting into new habits. You buy that $40 contour kit, $20 highlight, and a $30 translucent powder just to see how your face will look with this new makeup trend.

10. Started from the bottom now we’re here.

It started with that small tube of lip gloss, thinking that will be all the makeup you will ever need. But then you explore through the drugstore and then discovered Sephora/MAC/Ulta and soon your collection grew into something beautiful. All the different colors and pigments all stemmed from that shimmery lip gloss you bought at the drugstore. You have seen how much your makeup skills have grown and you could not be prouder.

But at the end of the day nothing can separate you and your love for makeup.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
