Many people have tattoos; they are commonly becoming more and more popular. Nowadays, it seems that it is actually more common for people to have at least one tattoo rather than not have any at all. They can sometimes be a very controversial topic to talk about. Not many people like tattoos and those same people usually have this preconceived notion that people who do have tattoos are bad people. But that is not the case at all. Having tattoos should have nothing to do with who a person is. Yes, tattoos can say a lot about the person, but they shouldn’t define them. Often times, tattoos can be associated with people who are not employed or with people who are criminals. This idea is completely untrue and has no correlation to people who are tattooed. All kinds of people like to ink their body with art: men and women, young and old, it doesn’t matter your shape or size, or the color of your skin.

People who don’t have tattoos are very quick to judge those who do have them. I know that from personal experience; people that I know who are not tattooed always have something to say about the ink on my body. One thing that everyone needs to know is that it should be totally up to the person whether or not they want to tattoo their own body. It’s nobody else's body but their own. Those of us who have tattoos shouldn’t have to be ridiculed and judged by those who don’t have any. It really isn’t any of their business.

Another stereotype of people who have tattoos is that they are or may be unemployed. I don’t know about you, but I know many people, a lot of whom are fellow co-workers of mine, who are tattooed, employed and are doing perfectly fine. I think since times have changed and tattoos have become more common, it has become the norm to see people with ink on their bodies. Whether it’s just a few small ones they have or a sleeve that takes up their entire arm, most of us are no longer surprised by the variety of tattoos there are.

I love seeing other people with tattoos and finding out the meaning behind them; they can sometimes be great conversation starters. Tattoos are usually personal and tend to have meaning to that person. They may even have a story behind why they have that tattoo and what it meant to them to get it permanently marked on their body. Most of the time, people put a lot of thought into the tattoo they get. Not only can they be expensive, but it will be there for the rest of your life. You wouldn’t want to get a tattoo of something you might regret in a few years.

All the tattoos I have were carefully thought out and planned months in advance. I’ve never gotten a tattoo impulsively and I have never put something on my body solely because I liked the way it looked. All my tattoos have a meaning behind them and a story I can tell when someone asks me what they are or why they have them. All of the ink I have was done because it was something I wanted to do. My parents may have disagreed with me, but my tattoos were only ever done for me and nobody else. It is my body and I should be able to do with it what I please.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
