Last Sunday during the mass, the Priest talked about the miracle of the Loretta Chapel and I felt in love with this miracle. It was year 1878 in the city of Santa Fe, in New Mexico, USA when the Loretta Chapel was completed and the original carpenter died without including a staircase for the nuns to access the top level. The nuns needed a staircase to go up to the second floor and so many carpenters approached them to take a look at the chapel and said that the room was too tight and there was no way to build a staircase and that the only way is to put a ladder in there.
Obviously, the ladder wouldn't be safe for the nuns to try to go up and down daily. So, they decided to spend nine days parting to St. Joseph, who was a carpenter. On the last day, a stranger approached them claiming that he was a carpenter and that he can help them build the staircase. The nuns knew this was the answer to their prayers so they immediately agreed without any conditions or even looking at what the carpenter's construction plan was. He built the staircase all by him self with out any central support and without a single nail or glue and when he competed the staircase, he disappeared without getting paid.
Then, the nuns and everyone in the city tried so hard to find this man and no one could ever see him. This lead to rumors that this man was Saint Joesph himself sent by God through the prayers of the nuns. Ever since then, the staircase has been called "miraculous" and a place of 250,000 visitors from all around the world every year.
Miraculously, there are three mysteries about this holy staircase. First, to this day, no one has been able to identify the person who constructed this staircase. Second, professionals, like architects, engineers, and scientists, still can't understand how this staircase stands balanced without any central support. Thirds, no one can identify where the wood came from. Professionals checked the wood this staircase was made with and it doesn't exist in the entire region. The final fact about this staircase which increased the belief that this is truly a miracle is that the staircase has 33 steps, which is the age of Jesus Christ.
Although all of this is obvious and very believable to me, yet many people choose not to believe it. What more does God have to do to proove to us that he really exists? I believe that the power of a prayer can do just about anything and that this staircase is like a way to heaven. This is clearly a miracle and one day I plan to visit the miraculous Loretta chapel staircase built by Saint Joesph himself.
