Today is a big day in my photographic career. Today I am photographing my very first wedding. This is a very exciting and nerve-racking moment as the event is just 3 hours away. I have prepped all my gear and I'm ready to shoot but I have no idea what to expect. I've watched many videos to try to gain an understanding of what's going to happen but no amount of videos can fully prepare me for this.
This is going to sound extremely nerdy but I think the thing I'm most excited for today is using the gear I rented for the wedding because I am in the market for a new camera. Below is a photo taken from my Instagram story of all the gear I will be using.
After hours of pondering of how I can make this day as smooth as possible, I decided to write this article to calm my nerves as well as put together of list of shots I wanna get through out the day. The list is as follows in the photo below.
Now, of course, this is a very rough list but I find myself in the heat of the moment often forgetting those very basic shots and this should help me to stay level-headed throughout the day. I can pretty much guarantee I won't be though.
This wedding is going to be small, but never the less going to be a true test of my skill as it is a mixture of all different types of photography. I'm going to need to bring out my portrait skills when it comes down to things like the group photos and photos of the bride and groom. Then my candid moment skills come in during those very special moments like "The Kiss" and "1st look". Then finally my travel photography skills come into play when it's my job to capture the essence of the venue, I'm going to need to capture detail shots highlighting all the little special decorations as well as the wide shot that show the whole setting in which they take place.
As a whole, although I'm nervous as heck. I feel comfortable about the day to come. I feel I am well prepared and it's going to a true test of my skills as well as grow me as a photographer. It will set the tone for the rest of the season for me and start me off on the right foot. The wedding is an hour away now and I need to hit the road. Tune in next week to see how it went.
