The Middle Of Semester

As told by Tina Fey

The Middle Of Semester

It is that time of the semester when everyone is either sick, tired, or tired of being sick. The best part of October rolling around means that fall break and Thanksgiving break are finally approaching. But, that also means midterms are approaching, and that means one scary thing: grades. It is time to buckle down and to start getting even more serious than you were before. Tina Fey always knows how to express herself in a way that we can all relate to, including the middle of the semester.

1. When Someone Asks You "How Are You."

Again, it is just that time of the semester when you are just tired and beyond ready for a break.

2. When You Look At Your Some of Your Grades

Not all of your grades, but of course the only ones that truly matter.

3. When You Have Mid-terms Everyday For the Next Week

You think you have retained the information at a good enough level to do well on exams, but you're not totally sure.

3. When School, Social Life, Extra Curricular-Life, and everything else Seems to Be Non-Stop

And when will it slow down? Treat yourself to Starbucks and hit everything head on.

4. When You Have That One Person in Class Who Brags About Their Grades

We all have that one person who feels entitled to continuously brag about how smart they are. Maybe they work hard, maybe they're bluffing, who knows. At the end of the day, they're super annoying.

5. When People Ask What You Are Going to do With Your Major

Who needs a major for that?

6. When Your Teacher is Explaining What is Going to Happen for the Rest of the Semester

Smile and nod and worry about it when you get there.

7. When You're Trying to Believe in Yourself and Stay Positive

We've all been there too, Tina.

8. When Everyone Else Seems to be Doing Great and You're Sub-Par

Chocolate chip cookies are the best listeners after all.

9. When You Get Your Mid-term Grades and That One Teacher Kept Your Grade at a 79.98%

And...

Because that is seriously rude. At least you will have the rest of the semester to help bring it up.

10. When You Get Your Grades and You Figure Out, You're Alright

Half the semester if over, now to just slay the other half.

Midterms are good because they truly do show what you are doing well and what you are not doing well at all. Which in actuality, is a whole lot better than figuring it out last minute. Just take it easy during breaks but work harder after them. The middle of the semester is the hardest to get over. If you can make it past this, the next half won't be nearly as bad. Always know that at the end of the day, you can do it. Just keep saying that to yourself, and you will.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
