WARNING: SPOILERS
While watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I couldn’t help but rank the male characters in my head using an extremely specific algorithm. This algorithm mainly includes spirit and coolness. The film of course also brought back memories of old episodes and characters. Here are the seven best male characters from the Star Wars films past and present.
7. Poe
As the “best pilot in the Resistance”, it’s impossible for Poe not to be liked. He’s got the talent and a cool leather jacket to match (not pictured). He’s a welcome new addition to the franchise.
6. Finn
Finn was cool. He was a cool guy. I liked his humor and spirit. The courage it took him to leave the First Order is commendable. Great job Finn.
5. Anakin
Before he was Darth Vader, Anakin was awesome. He and Padme were couple goals. He and Obi-Wan were also, arguably couple goals.
4. Han Solo (both young and old)
Han is great. That’s all I need to say. He’s just great. When he was killed by Kylo Ren, a giant hole formed in my heart and I don’t think it will ever heal. RIP Han.
3. Elder Luke
Of course Luke Skywalker was an important character in episodes four through six, but I liked him best in seven. When I heard Luke was going to make an appearance in this film I was skeptical. I thought it would be weird and make me miss the old Luke. I WAS WRONG. He was only in it for a brief second, but that was the best second of the movie, and the movie was awesome, so that should really say something.
2. Chewie
My only recommendation for Chewie is that he should perhaps try a man bun. He has a lot of hair that is the perfect length for a small top-knot. Other than that he’s a straight up ten. I think everyone would agree that Chewie is the heart and soul of every episode he’s in.
1. Obi- Wan Kenobi
There is no doubt that Obi-Wan is not just the best male character in any of the Star Wars movies, but the best character overall. If you do not know Obi, please familiarize yourself and you will understand the hype. After the fight with Anakin in Episode three, I haven't stopped internally crying. While Alec Guinness (the original Obi-Wan) did a great job, I'm a die-hard Ewan fan and thus prefer his performance.
Honorable mentions that were too important to even be ranked:
Qui- Gon Jinn- Because he's played by Liam Neeson
Yoda- Because He's Yoda
Now I’m off to go watch the film repeatdely for a fortnight.
