When it comes to American culture, no one group of people holds as much power as the media. With the power to sway public opinion, the media influences people and can sometimes be a little too... overbearing. The problem with this is, like Peter Parker's uncle once said, "With great power comes great responsibility." And the media almost always never uses this power for good, or ethical, journalism.
A very prominent topic that shows where news stations divide is politics, especially around the time of presidential elections. This election, we saw many more liberal news stations try to fall in line with the Clinton campaign (and sometimes ignore the Sanders campaign completely). However, on the Republican side, we have seen a more timid approach to their party's candidate. Of course, with these candidates, the media has been adding their spin to their stories and trying to downplay the less than desirable actions and traits of their respective person. With Clinton and her emails, the Clinton Foundation, Trump's lack of finesse and controversial comments, and a mountain of other problems, the election season has been all but ordinary.
That's a major problem, though. All these news stations are pushing their own idealized agenda, and you can't really tell what is bull, what is white noise, and what is actual fact. Even then, when it seems like there is a slow news day, such as when America found out that "Trump eats his KFC with a knife and fork" CNN reported on it (yes, they gave it airtime and a commentator showed how to eat KFC with a knife and fork). All the while, thirty people had died due to a poisonous gas attack from a terrorist group.
Why can't we just have one news station that doesn't try to fill us with white noise and actually pushes news stories that pertain to both the United States and the rest of the world? Why should I care how a candidate eats his KFC? That doesn't matter to me. What I want to know is this: is there any corruption behind these candidates? What are their track records on certain issues that I hold dear and near to my heart? I don't care what the candidates wore. I want news, and if I wanted fashion advice, I'd watch E! News.
Of course, there was The Young Turks this cycle who provided a fairly biased news reporting towards Sanders, but what I want is a totally impartial news station made up of Republican, Democratic, and Third Party commentators. We need something that actually gives impartial news, not fashion tips or hot gossip.
