Cookies, cake, ice cream, wings, tacos, chips, candy, carbs in general; wow what a list! If you’re anything like me, you have a sweet tooth that gets the best of you every Thursday when Buffalo Wild Wings has 69 cent wings. You also keep a bag of sour patch kids locked up in your desk drawer for emergencies only of course. As a college student it can be so hard to resist these urges especially when your crunched on time or stressed. Furthermore, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is often overlooked but it is a such a necessity for success!
Now I am no fitness guru but I do eat healthy 90% of the time and workout five-six days a week. With that being said, I have my good weeks and I have my bad. My body definitely knows this too. If I’m consistently eating healthy and working out, I notice that I have an abundance of energy, my mood is happy, my skin is glowing, and my clothes fit a little better. Essentially, I look better and feel better.
Your health should be at the top of your priority list while in college. Trust me I get it though. With class, jobs, homework, and even some volunteer work here and there it can be so hard to find that extra time to dedicate to the gym. I also understand how much easier it is to throw some pizza rolls in the oven then to take some time out and actually cook a healthy meal. It’s even easier to just not eat at all sometimes which is such a no-no! My suggestion to you is to meal prep. Plan your meals ahead of time. This can be as simple as throwing a meal replacement bar and banana and backpack to eat in between classes.
If your live in your own it’s crucial that you have strict discipline while in the grocery store. If the only thing you have in your fridge is healthy fruits, veggies, and lean meats then you can’t go wrong! -Simple as that. Easy-peasy!
When it comes to exercise, I should hear no excuses! All your body asks for is a quick 50-60-minute sweat session. The cool part is you’ll also come to realize that exercise will quickly go from being a hassle to a form of stress-release. Trust me, come finals you’re going to be looking forward to your precious gym time. This can also be a time to study. Yes, I said it, you can work your body and your mind at the same time! Bring your notebook to the gym and spend some time on the bike while studying those math equations. It’s a proven fact that movement enhances your ability to memorize things! Our bodies are crazy cool, right?! Walking to class and taking the stairs will also help you see significant changes in your body!
Even if you think eating healthy and working out isn’t your thing, try it for a week! It’s a feeling only one can experience for themselves!
