Triple platinum folk-rock band, The Lumineers, finish the first part of their Cleopatra World Tour in California, with sold out shows at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Oct. 5th and Greek Theatre in Berkeley on Oct 6th and 7th. BØRNS and Rayland Baxter will open.

This tour spotlights the new songs from their second album “Cleopatra” that opened at No. 1 on the Billboard chart with 108,000 sales and 17.4 million streams in April 2016, according to Nielson Music. Since then, they have seen the albums first single release, “Ophelia”, charm listeners as it climbed the charts and became this past summer’s most played song on Alternative radio.

The Denver, Colorado-based band first found their way into the hearts and minds of fans in 2012 with their first hit single “Ho Hey”. Founding members Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites first got together in New Jersey in 2002 after the overdose death of Fraites’ brother Josh, as a way of coping with pain and emotions of grief. They kicked around the N.Y. music scene for years without finding a niche and in 2009, they took a leap of faith and moved to Denver. There they hopped on the open mic scene and ultimately reeled in a third member, Neyla Pekarek, a classically trained cellist, via a Craigslist ad. In April 2012 they released their first album, The Lumineers, that found popularity on alternative music stations and brought them a national audience. They went on to perform sold out audiences through 2014 when they began working on the recent album.

The Lumineers are known for their folksy tunes that latch into our thoughts and hook listeners into humming along, long after the song is over. After the success of the first album, a band can feel the pressure crank-up on their second recording, but The Lumineers were up to the task.

Their song "Angela" is the third and final installment of a short arrangement, telling the reversed chronological order of a story about a young woman, Cleopatra (produced by Isaac Ravishankara), who finds herself pregnant and facing hard decisions about life, missed opportunities, and lost love.

Check out the most recently released video "Angela" from the album "Cleopatra" below.

After their final North American shows in California, the band moves on to Europe with shows through November. In April, they end their Cleopatra World Tour with shows in Australia, Japan, and South Africa.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
