The Luce Bunny

A shout-out to the rabbit that consistently brightens my day.

This week, with my entire Facebook feed being bombarded with articles about a bunch of horrible things--political and otherwise--happening, I decided to log off for a bit and take a walk to clear my mind. Some self-care. To take a moment to appreciate the small things in life, the things that give me hope and consistently make my day. As I was walking on Tuesday evening, I stumbled into one of them.

The Luce Bunny.

For reference, a dormitory on the College of Wooster campus, Luce Hall, has had a small resident living outside of the hall itself since the beginning of the Winter 2016 semester. Or around then; no one is really sure. No one seems to know where it came from, whether it's wild, or a domesticated rabbit that makes a commute from its hutch to Luce Hall each night. No one knows whether it's a doe (female) or a buck (male). Heck, most of what I know about rabbits is from readingWatership Down, so I'm most certainly no expert on the subject, and I definitely couldn't tell you.

But, what I can tell you is that this rabbit consistently brightens my day, and is incredibly adorable.

I have taken pictures of this local legend, but it seems as if fate (or my horrible night-time camera) does not want me to catch a picture of the elusive bun, at least, not one that doesn't look like a piece of abstract art. So, I had to do some investigation via Google to find a similar rabbit, and found this one on Google Images.

While I often see it when it's dark outside, when I've seen it in daylight, the rabbit looks kind of like this, sans the spots on its eye. Each night, and on the rare occasion, day, this majestic little bunny is hanging out in the grass near the Scheide music building, or relaxing in front of Luce Hall. They are surprisingly calm around humans, not even moving if you are quite literally standing 3 feet away to attempt to take a picture as you wrestle with your phone's camera to capture its adorableness.

Some call them Spots. Some call them The Luce Bunny. I, personally, call them Momiji (like the Zodiac Rabbit in the manga Fruits Basket), since the first time I saw them was after I had been reading it with my friends. This rabbit may be shrouded in mystery, but, the one thing everyone knows is that, without fail, each night, the Luce Bunny will be hopping around outside of Luce Hall.

So, next time you're walking around the Wooster campus and you're having a bad day, look for the Luce Bunny. If you end up seeing them, you'll be glad you did.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
