Today, just about everybody under the age of forty has an extensive digital music collection. Ten years ago CD's were on their way to becoming obsolete, thanks to the advancement of MP3 downloads and itunes. However, an old media form has resurfaced and begun to make a comeback with millennials. I'm talking about the most popular way to listen to music from the 1920's to the late 1980's, our old friend the vinyl LP. I have an extensive music collection, and I have been asked why I bother with vinyl. I personally think nothing compares to the thrill of discovering a little known album by one of those obscure 80's bands that has a fantastic sound but nobody has ever heard. I frequently haunt local thrift stores and our local record store for classic albums I want to add to my collection, and sometimes for music I've never heard before. That being said, more and more albums are being released on LP's. I personally have never heard a more beautiful playback of Adele's 25 then when I listened to it on vinyl for the first time. I also plan to add all of my favorite punk, rock and pop albums to my vinyl collection to supplement my digital music collection. Another beautiful aspect of a Vinyl album is that there is no skip button. No fast forward. You have to listen to and absorb the entire album the way you would a book. You cant just single out one specific song, you have to listen to them all. This has given me such a great appreciation for an album as a whole, not just a single song. Vinyl just has this warmth to it, and a unique, full sound, that seems to just wrap around you and fill the room. Personally, Vinyl is one of my favorite playback formats, and I hope it sticks around for years to come.
Pics are of some of my personal favorites, and one of my record walls in my home. LP's at goodwill or a thrift store may not be in the best condition but they make fantastic decorations! You really can't beat .99 for a wall decoration!
