In "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, self describes himself with this quote, "We are plain quiet folk, and I have no use for adventures. Nasty, disturbing, and uncomfortable things." Nevertheless, five hobbits in these stories have some quite exciting adventures, and they help keep the spirits of their companions up in the meantime. The hobbits are the true heroes of "The Lord of the Rings" because they kept each other happy, cheered up the rest of the fellowship and eventually destroyed the One Ring. If you are in need of some happiness and encouragement in your life, here are tips from hobbits to help you in the last few weeks of classes.

1. Believe in your friends

Just like Samwise Gamgee's three best friends at his wedding, these hobbits are rooting for and happy for you. They believe in each other and rejoin in each other's successes.

2. Chase your dreams

Just like the hobbits at Bilbo Baggins 111th birthday, take time to embrace the little things that make you happy.

3. Take a breather

Just like Merry and Pippin, laugh at yourself in the midst of whatever situation you are in. Remember to take a breath and break when you need it.

4. Let out your frustration

Just like Sam explaining to Smeagol what Potatoes are, it's okay if you get a little frustrated with your craft every once in a while.

5. Do what you have to do

Just like Pippin, do what you have to do to get through the hard times in life.

6. Remember that you will soon be free

Just like Frodo and Sam, walk resolutely and in a few weeks, you will be free to live your adventure again.

7. Celebrate the little things

Just like Frodo, celebrate when you haven't seen your friends in a few days (because you have been stuck in the library for days).

8. Prepare for Goodbyes

Just like Merry, Pippin and Sam, sometime soon you will have to say goodbye to all your friends.

9. Get ahead on your homework

Just like Bilbo, sometimes you look back at your past work and remember who you used to be (like when you started that rough draft of your paper a week ago).

10. Take an adventure break

Just like Bilbo, sometimes you need to forego all responsibilities for an adventuresome study break.

One more week of classes, and then finals week. These last few days of the semester tend to be the busiest, hardest, most emotional and exhausting weeks of the year. Just like the Lord of the Rings, you have a big task ahead of you, and use these tips to prepare yourself for the coming and current storm of homework and exams. Let these hobbits and their ways and words of wisdom guide you through the rest of the week as the little people conquer the big things in life.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
