Contaminated food can ruin anybody's day, especially if the individual is unaware of the risks after consuming the food. Salmonella is an example of a food borne illness a person can get from eating undercooked meat, as well as mercury poisoning- which is obtained from raw shellfish and being around certain indoor environments and products.
With that being said, it is also important to be mindful of other bacterias that can serve as a threat to the body. Listeria or Listeriosis is a bacteria infection derived from the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. It can be found in unpasteurized meat and dairy products, eating hot dogs, etc. The bacteria is first found in the soil and water (nature) and can infect animals or other food products in a food borne illness.
This bacteria can affect anyone and especially those with a weaker immune system than others. Pregnant women are at a higher risk in the sense that they can experience high body temperatures and the infection can lead to miscarriages. The symptoms for Listeria can result in fevering, nausea, and an infection in the meningeal area of the body. However, the incubation period can range from three to seventy days .
With the outbreak pertaining to frozen vegetable products, a company named CRF Frozen Foods (Pasco, Washington) were required to recall their inventory due to the Listeria bacteria infecting individuals. As a result, the CRF had to include organic and all frozen food inventory on recall as well after this controversy. To this day, the investigation is ongoing and more information will be out to the media.
