The Life of the Party

This is not me.

The Life of the Party

As I’m walking up hill, I can hear this annoying sound. It's loud and sounds unorganized. The closer I get the clearer I can see this four wall statue made up of some sort of items they use for entertainment called legos, with some sort of pointed figure on top. As I walk closer, the sounds becomes louder but no one is in sight. Until two young foxes go into this type of portal. As I go into this portal, I see different sets of hunters. Inside the portal there are these types of fireflies all over the place supplying the source of light. The hunters seem to be hunting for different types of foxes. The foxes are insane. They are all different and they're all acting differently with no sense of order and control. Some of them are moving awkwardly and shaking their tails in a very informal way. While others have transformed themselves into looking like something else. I can't necessarily put my finger on it, but they have painted their fur and have done something to their eyes that put them aside from all the other foxes. I think about how this wouldn't be allowed at home. And I start to question if this is how they act at home. The hunters are foolish and trying to conquer certain foxes by bribing them with what looks like a magical drink. It's blue and lights up it seems as if they all have this magical drink. I question myself if that is the reason why there are all so wild. The room is foggy and there are separate parts to this room. In one room there are rows of holes lined up and there are both foxes and hunters trying to get this tiny sphere into some of the holes. I notice two foxes to be doing something that seems like fighting, but I find myself questioning the fact that they are trying to get caught by these hunters. These hunters with guns in their hands using them as a weapon. The hunters can take their life away at any moment and all they are doing is sitting there giving the hunters perfect aim to shot and take over. The longer I spend time here the more I want to become one of them. In a way I have this pleasing feeling inside me as I bond closer with these foxes and hunters. It seems that the longer I stand here with out that magical drink in my had the more I feel as an outsider. But they are outsiders as well because I don't know any tribe that would consider this right. I become to realize that the hunters aren't really hunting and the foxes are something else. As a fox hands me a drink I begin to start doing the same movements that they are. And for a split second I feel as if I belong. But as soon as I look into the mirror in the wall I realize that this isn't me that this is all just a game of pretend and I am pretending to be someone I am not. Just to fit in. When I should simply just stand out. When in reality this will all be over tommorow I will still be me because this action that I am doing will not change anything. Or will it?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings.
