It is never ending for a grocery store cashier is what I found out. There is always going to be a story. Either with co-workers or people throughout the store. But I am very thankful for this job because it can be hard work sometimes, and the hard work is worth the reward: money and people skills. So here is part two of the life of a grocery store cashier.
Sometimes when you see someone you know and try to blend in hoping that they will not see you.
Too late, they see you and when they say hi, you actually cringe. Also, sometimes you do not remember how you know them until they say, "I'm so and so's mom." Then you say, "Oh hi, how are?" and so on and so on.
When you see one of your high school teachers in your line and get excited because you loved having her/him as teacher.
It happened to me and I loved seeing her. She even asked how I was.
The Tippecanoe Curse is real. I swear.
When you and one of your co-workers get in a heated debate about the curse being real or not. But he doesn't believe you and you tell him to look it up, but he still does not believe you.
When the assistant manager calls you and asks for you to cover the 5-9 shift.
Should I? I have five seconds to respond to her. I mean I need the money. "Sure I'll come in and cover the shift." She tells you that you are a lifesaver.
Then you realize you have to get a red card to punch in because your are not on schedule for today.
Umm ... Where is a person with a red card? And you become frustrated when you cannot find a manager to clock in.
You get excited that it is late and that store is quiet and that no one is really shopping right now because it is almost eight o'clock at night.
My favorite because no stress with coupons or lousy customers.
When you do not have a bagger and the customer does not even help put his/her things in the bags to help.
I mean do you not see that long line of people behind you? You can help, you are fully capable to lift things and put groceries in bags. Commence eye roll.
When you run out of grocery bags.
You look around and start stealing plastic bags from other cash registers.
I feel that the life of a grocery store cashier will always have stories to tell whether it be funny stories, rude customer stories, or just random conversations you have with co-workers. I know that I love my job as a grocery store cashier.
