The Lie Society Wants Us To Believe

Women should stand united.

I believe it's a lie someone wants us to believe. Why can't women empower, encourage, support, compliment and, for christ's sake, mean it? Are you mad because she has the shoes you want or the man you want? Get over it, there are a lot of fish in the sea and a new fall line of Steve Maddens. You're mad she's a size 2 and you're not? It's not her fault. Go to the gym and figure it out. Do not degrade a woman because she's what you want, go get it on your own.

We live in a society filled with jealousy and the ugliest type of jealousy is the one among women. Instead of complimenting each other and wishing the best, we target and envy those that have what we want.

I believe this idea of competition derives from a woman's lack of confidence. I believe the main competition is beauty and body. When a woman sees another in a bikini, most women say to themselves "I need to look like that or why don't I look like that."

Why should there even be a winner. Why does one woman need to better than the other. I just don't understand it. If everyone looked the same or dressed the same no one would be unique. Everyone would be ordinary. No one should ever strive to be ordinary.

Competition should be left on the sports field. In sports, there are winners but those winners won as a team. Women need to be a team. They should be together. As cliche as it sounds, there is no I in team.

All women are the same at the end of the day, one is no better than the other. We all hurt and we all are joyful, we just show it in different ways. We all have opinions and we all have thoughts, some may say theres and other may not. Understand we all want to be happy in life. Supporting each other and empowering each other is essential.

We as women already have to compete against men in the work field and "housewife" stereotypes, we do not need to be competing against each other. Society wants to pin us against each other but we must fight back. We must realize it is a waste of time to be competing with another female. It is not only wrong but just uneducated. We, as women, are better than that. We need to be role models for not only each other, but the generations that follow us. No need for malicious comments and rude tactics, no need for ugly gossip and vicious rumors.

If you want to compete with someone, compete with the old you. Be a better you, tell yourself you want to better the world. Encourage those women who need it and exemplify good faith to those ladies who seem to be losing their way.

Remember: I love you. You are beautiful. Look at how beautiful we are when we stand together?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
