Why I'm Running For ASC

In three stages, I plan to re-energize ASC's Marcom department and the communication between ASC and the student body. Be in the Know.

Be in the Know.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be running a campaign to become the VP of Marcom in ASC! Elections will be held from February 8th to February 11th online for all Fox students to vote. Over the next few paragraphs, allow me to paint you a word picture that explains what I plan to do in office.

But before I can explain anything about what it means to be the VP of Marcom, what even is it? The VP of Marcom is in charge of all communication between ASC, our student government, and the student body. This person is the director of the social media accounts, the ASC weekly email chain, the posters and all the other ways we as a student body hear from ASC.

I want to be in ASC because I believe that I have the skills and the network necessary to make a positive change and get things accomplished. I see some flaws in the way that the Marcom branch has been run, and I have a vision to change that so our campus can be more unified and informed.

Within this vision is a three-stage process to re-energize and revitalize communication with the student body.

The first stage is to bridge the gap between ASC and other branches of student leadership. Frankly, ASC does not have the manpower to reach all of campus effectively and efficiently. However, building a stronger relationship with ResLife and PAs would give us as ASC the reach to connect with far more of the student body. I am currently in ResLife, and I can vouch for the fact that there is essentially no conmmunication between us and ASC. Unfortunately, this issue is not specific to ResLife, and other branches of student leadership feel the same way about the lack of communication. I plan to change that so that all of our student leaders know what is happening on campus.

The second stage of my plan is to revitalize the ASC social media presence. ASC currently is on Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. However, these accounts are not followed by large parts of campus, and as a result, cannot be used as effectively as they should be. I have a plan to re-energize social media through three step. The first step will take place in August, before classes start. There will be an email sent to all undergraduate students with links to follow our different social media pages, along with promised content and a reason to connect. The second step involves creating consistent, engaging content on each of the four platforms. If the accounts are not active, what is the point of following them? Finally, the third step of the social media revival will be to feature different giveaways and prizes to encourage active engagement with the ASC brand.

The third stage of the plan to re-energize ASC's connection with the student body is to overhaul the ASC weekly email chain. Email marketing is a legitimate way to communicate, but it needs to be handled properly. I will make sure the email is sent out on a consistent basis. I will also be working to overhaul the content so that it is more engaging for the student body.

I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to run this campaign and be a part of ASC, and I encourage every Fox student to vote in the upcoming elections! If you have any questions about my campaign or the election itself, don't hesitate to ask me!

For 2018, Be in the Know.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
