The Joy Of Hard Times

Hard times are the essence of one’s soul.

Success and happiness are two major goals for most people, however, it seems that the road to these goals will often take a lot time and certainly an abundance in effort. Reaching them is a hard and fatiguing process, so one must not expect an easy journey. Talking about aims and the roads to them leads to the point that one will spend a lot of time working hard to reach them, so it is clear that one must make the process as pleasurable as possible.

It comes to my attention that during a time of despair or agony, one will consistently recount the memories and actions that brought oneself joy and delight. Yet I wonder why one will only focus on the “good” times and allow the monster of nostalgia to make things appear better than they were. By the same token, during joyful times one will reminisce on the little things that one cherished during the “hard” times, which are sometimes clouded by pain. It becomes obvious that one will find the grass to be, more often than not, greener on the other side.

Therefore, one must find the little things during one’s hard times and make them as memorable as possible. Hard times are the essence of one’s soul. It shapes the mind and is the most suitable time for understanding the connection between the two entities. It is much harder to focus on them in times of joy, because through difficulty comes clarity of one’s being. People often know what to do during their good days, but will find themselves lost when they tide turns the other way around.

That is why I emphasize and can’t stress enough the point that one should find the pleasures in times of pain. It will bring one closer to one’s soul and nature, and will free oneself from the inevitable guilt of not grasping the moments that brought joy to one’s soul during the hardest of times.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
