Aside from the major decision of whether or not you should upgrade your iPhone, the next topic of choice is what size should you get? Some have it already made up in their mind while others have had some difficulty choosing what to get.
Two years ago, I was the latter half of those two groups and I can guarantee you that I extensively researched both sizes of the iPhone before I made my final decision. I figured that a bigger screen, larger battery life, and faster speeds would suit my needs.
After being with my iPhone 6 Plus, I realized many great things and not so great things about the larger size. The good always outweighed the bad, but it still bugged me nonetheless. So when I had the opportunity to upgrade, I decided to sacrifice the big guy and go for the smaller iPhone 7.
I immediately felt a twinge of doubt when I purchased the newly designed Apple product. I reminded myself what I disliked in the plus version to help convince me that I made the right choice; because although I have such a great appreciation for the extra screen space, I knew that this would alleviate all of those problems. It would be better when I had a couple of days to get comfortable with it, right?
What I wasn't expecting
I called my wife to tell her that I made the switch and the first thing I noticed was that my arm didn’t grow tired from the weight of the phone! The plus size wasn’t all that bad at first, but 15-20 minutes into the conversation will make you wish you brought your headphones with.
I got off the phone and texted a reply to my brother-in-law one handed! Gone were the days where I had to stop what I was doing and respond using both hands. I could finally text and walk casually without looking like I was completely engrossed on my device.
On a similar topic, I could access every virtual button that the apps threw at me. I could reach the top corners of my iPhone. While I did miss the extra screen space, this gave me satisfaction in my decision.
I could go on to discuss the extra add-ons on this year’s model, but I really wanted to elaborate on the transition of the large to the smaller phone. They are both big devices, but in the end, it comes to how big do you want it.
The Final Verdict
Now that I’ve had my phone for a few days, I don’t regret my decision. I miss some of the extra perks like the larger battery, the extra ram, or even just the screen size; but I do enjoy having something that fits comfortably in my hand and is easily accessible to reach with my thumb. Honestly, I haven’t even noticed the loss when I watch my favorite YouTubers.
My point is if you’re afraid of downsizing or trying to decide on what you should get, I will be the first to tell you that I’m a survivor of the change and it’s really not as bad (if bad at all) as you might think. You should really weigh the options of what you want and then pick the one that has the most from your criteria. If you still can’t decide, then go with what you already have. After all, you already know how it works and you’re used to it too.
I’m sure that when it’s time for me to upgrade again, I will consider both options like I did before. Until then, I will happily use the iPhone 7 just like I did with the iPhone 6 Plus. Thanks again, Apple.
