Pennywise skits have been popping up all over the internet ever since the release of "It" on September 8th. Popular late night shows, YouTubers, and ordinary people have all taken to the streets, finding their nearest sewer to perform their rendition of Georgie's death. The one skit that stood out to me the most was on The Late Late Show with James Corden and was titled, "The IT Department." This skit included not only Pennywise but Freddy Krueger as well.
If it isn't registering with you from the title, the skit is about a man working in an office who is having computer troubles so he calls for IT. Now, as it is going to be Halloween soon, you can see the confusion in what he asks for, considering he didn't specify. After just seconds of waiting, Pennywise appears next to him and the skit continues on from there with a frustrated Pennywise and an even more frustrated employee. Apparently, this kind of mix up happens a lot at this company.
Something that is made evident from this skit is that Pennywise can scare you, no matter how much he is trying NOT to.
Another great "It" skit that has been circling the internet is "Kellywise", which appeared on Saturday Night Live. This skit was a bit more intense and models the Pennywise in the sewer talking to Georgie scene quite well if you ask me.
Kellyanne Conway, if you couldn't guess, plays Pennywise, and from the comments posted on the video, did a pretty bang-up job of it. This skit took more of a political approach -- which makes sense -- but also proved itself to be funny and scary. Plus, who doesn't love the infamous Pennywise dance? Kellyanne shows off her dance moves at the end of the skit and surprisingly enough, did the dance pretty well considering how awkward the movement it is.
Pennywise is rising up and up in popularity which is made clear by the mass amount of adaptations being created regarding the well-known clown. It seems strange to me that something everyone is so afraid of is also so popular. Does everyone remember when we had that clown "epidemic?" You know when everyone was dressing up in the creepiest clown costume and mask adorned with bells, whistles, and balloons, and then just strolling around town at midnight to catch anyone hanging around off guard?
After that, I honestly thought that was the last we would see of clowns in the spotlight considering how "afraid" they make everyone. Now, with the sequel if "It" planned and headed to the big screen in just a few short years, it looks like the Pennywise fad will be something that's going to be sticking around for the next years to come.
