Out of the DMV, a star as tangy and sweet as mumbo sauce is on the rise, and that star is Goldlink. It’s hard for anything or anyone to be original in the 21st century, and it seems like we have found comfort in our constant use of recycled ideas, but I see something in Goldlink that I haven’t seen in other hip-hop artists.

The 23 year old, D’Anthony Carlos who found his name after watching the documentary American Pimp , possess a slight raspy tone with a nice harmonious melodic singing voice on top of that. Goldlink infuses the high energy and go go driven vibe of the DMV in his instrumental choice. Goldlink music sounds like a simpler summer filled with teenage angst and everything that we love about love. Accompanying the musical composition is conscious lyrics that entail life experiences delivered in a breakneck cadence.

Goldlink gives us a necessary and a relaxing balance in our music. Listening to him, we feel all of life emotions and are taken on different rides in each song. We are in time where most rappers feel like growing out the hair and then dying it shows that they are different and musical outcast, without actually producing music that equates to their exterior. Goldlink is different in a unconventional millennial way and that is seen within his music and appearance.

Link possesses an ambiguity that I appreciate because in the era where everybody wants to be seen, he is someone who just wants to make great music.

I met Goldlink through the release of his freshman debut, The God Complex, in 2014 which garnered mixed reviews like much of his music does, but I loved it. The Men in Black sampled single, Ay Ay on that project was my favorite. The song, Sober Thoughts, was a popular one.

His album,And After That,We Didn’t talk is an amazing story about love filled with great musical instrumentation and nice lyrics.

His latest single, Fall in Love, has received a lot of lately and has more of a r&b appeal than a lot of his music.

I promise it would be an investment in listening the man yourself.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
