Listening to Hannah Baker tell her life story through her 13 tapes after she committed suicide, you would have no idea that she's actually Australian. It wasn't until I watched a clip on the making of 13 Reasons Why, after I finished and discovered her strong accent. Katherine did not always have the dream of being an actress. In fact, that was her third choice. Going into the medical field was her first, but it was Lady Gaga who inspired her to further her love of music and acting after high school. Katherine had never worked in anything as extreme as this Netflix series she was about to take on. She actually interviewed in very short notice with the director through a Skype interview and was called to fly into California ten days after. She took extensive consideration to really get in touch with her character, Hannah Baker. She is now working on two movies that are in process of being made. She also studied at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic art and the Principle Academy of Performing Arts in Perth. She was already born to be in the spotlight, but this is where she had the opportunity to enhance her acting skills.
I know we all loved Hannah and Clay's relationship in the show. Well, they enjoyed it as well. The two of them got along on set and Katherine would say that whenever Dylan Minnette and her had a scene together it would put a smile on her face. There was no awkwardness between the two. Like all of the other actors in the show, Katherine agreed that the story needed to be straight forward and show as much detail as they were allowed. There were a few intense scenes in the show; such as the rape scene, but they needed to put you on the edge when you were watching. If you didn't feel a little at unease and uncomfortable, then you were not getting the true effect of what it is like to live through something so tragic. To unwind after filming such mentally and physically tiring scenes, she would watch Netflix. According to her, The Office was her go to. Can you blame her? She never really wanted to have her Instagram profile public to the world. She didn't want her social media to influence how people perceive her. She wanted to be known solely for her acting skills. It wasn't until Selena Gomez talked her into making her profile open to the public. When she did, it allowed her to connect with her fans on another level and their real life experiences with suicide. She really knows how to connect with people on and off the show. To top it all off, her Hollywood crush was Orlando Bloom growing up. How can you not love her?
