Leadership is hard, but teamwork is even harder. A lot of times, you feel challenged in one way and it gets resolved quickly. However, there are other times when you are challenged in a million different ways and everything seems to crash down at once.
You feel like you have nowhere to go and you don't even know what to say. When multiple personalities are at work, it can be hard to control a tough situation. I have definitely learned the importance or playing on people's individual strengths and making sure to give praise. When someone does something on time or does an excellent job at their task, it is important to praise them and make sure they know their work is appreciated.
We often get caught up doing our own things and our own parts of the big puzzle, that we forget to thank everyone else who helped us accomplish the end goal.
Strengths and weaknesses are an important part of who we are. They are so important that in almost every interview you will be asked, "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
When working in a team, it is important to not only know your own strengths but also focus on the strengths of your teammates. It can be very complicated to merge personalities.
I know I struggle with working on a team where people procrastinate. I am a person who likes to get things done early because I need to feel like a lot of time and effort went into something. When I do something, I don't like it to be halfway done. I need to give it 110%.
However, when working with different personalities you have to put yourself in their shoes in order to understand their thought processes. The challenging part is getting them to understand that they also need to put themselves in your shoes. A lot of times we are either too selfish or too selfless and it is important to find a balance and figure out how to lead. When working on a team, the team dynamic is the most important in order to have an excellent end product or end result.
If the team does not work well, then most likely your deliverable will not be the best. Playing on each others strengths and filling the gaps of the weaknesses are one of the most important things for a great experience.
