There is something that you're missing out of life if Snapchat is something that consumes a significant portion of your day. More time goes by than you realize when you meticulously schedule your events over the course of the next hour around looking at stories, responding to funny Snapchats from your best friends, and sending pictures, of course, to all of your friends.
How did an app as simple as Snapchat receive a $3 billion dollar offer from Facebook (which was turned down)?
The influence of Snapchat is immense. A new method of communicating with friends was introduced and sold to younger crowds from even its most premature stages. It was simply too much fun and granted users too many capabilities that the power the application itself accrued soon grew to be colossal.
Snapchat is a major component of the holistic communication that our generation has with each other. Along with face to face interaction, text messaging, and phone calls, Snapchat is a major method used to communicate with close friends and even love interests. It is a playful yet creative way to express yourself with minimal risk of anything said getting back to you (unless your friends are terrible people and screenshot your selfies).
Ultimately, the app seems to make us a bit more impatient, as the pictures displayed on the app are so short and easy to send that they naturally create a sense of quick interaction with little thought given to any sort of conversation. The app also has introduced a simple yet effective way to keep in touch with friends and connections from time to time when you have an interesting experience to share. The best part about Snapchat is that it is so easy; such little work is required for what can sometimes be a hilarious picture that makes someone else's day.
As is with all social media, the applications themselves are not damaging, but rather the manners in which some of them are occasionally abused constitute the real evil. There is nothing inherently wrong with Snapchat; in fact, I contend that it has even changed our world for the better, as it has furthered capabilities to interact with friends and family at such a low maintenance cost. It has been a good addition to the world of social media and continues to run a notably long course of popularity. There seems to be little indication of Snapchat slowing down significantly any time soon.
