As the years go by, we mostly ignore the importance of the events that have happened on each day. For example, most of us are completely oblivious to the events that have happened on September 9th. It takes us a Google search to find out the important or memorable historical that happened, and for the most part they are events we did not even know about. There are days like July 4th and December 25th which automatically ring a bell. When these days are mentioned our heads are filled with ideas and memories that make these days significant to us.
Another day that falls under this category is September 11th. Somebody says “Nine-Eleven” and our brain jumps straight to September 11, 2001. I do not have to explain what happened on this day because a majority of us witnessed the acts of terror unfold. It was such a traumatic event that we can point exactly where we were at and what we were doing when it happened. Personally, I remember getting ready for another day of kindergarten and watching the television news coverage of the two planes that had hit the Twin Towers. My 5 year-old self was unable to wrap around the significance of what had happened. Now that I am older, I have a better understanding of what happened on that day.
First of all, it was the first act of terror that I would ever witness and remember. Terrorism seems to be plastered all over the news. Whether it is the mass shootings with in our borders or ISIS overseas, it feels as if it something that happens with uncomfortable amount of consistency.
Secondly, there are things we cannot take for granted. America offers a place where all its occupants can flex their god-giving rights and freedoms. These attacks were an attempt to take these scared rights and freedoms away from us. As a nation, we need value these things so that they are not torn away from us.
Finally, we need gain a sense of thankfulness. On September 11, 2001, many lives perished. They left behind families and loved one who lives were changed for the rest of their lives. We need to be thankful for each day that God gives us. We need to be thankful for the first responders in this country. Many paid the ultimate price attempting to save those trapped within those towers. There are also soldiers who fought and died overseas bringing justice for the attacks on this great nation. We need to be grateful for what they put on line for America.
America, as we remember and commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, lets stand together and pay tribute to who died on this day by loving one another. We need to draw this nation together so that it continues to grow and strengthens its American values.
