As the 2016-2017 school year approaches, many Hillsdale College students are heading back, or are getting ready to return within the next few weeks or days, to begin training for their respective athletic teams. These people are not only hardworking athletes, but also dedicated scholars, who balance rigorous training along with a frequently heavy course loads, typical of Hillsdale College. That doesn't even take into account the student athletes who have jobs on or off campus, are in sororities or fraternities, or are involved in one of the many student organizations. Student athletes are seen as a reflection of the college and its values. These hardworking individuals are expected to represent the school on and off the field. The student athletes, through their hard work and perseverance, strive to achieve excellence.

One of Hillsdale's biggest problems is that it seems as though only a select few groups of people turn out to the various sporting events. One tends to see sorority and fraternity members, other student athletes, and, of course, the men of Simpson who let nothing, not even rain, sleet, hail, or snow, get in their way of supporting Hillsdale's teams. Yet everybody else is missing in action.

Why is this? Are you a fair-weather fan? Do you not understand the rules of certain games, like football, for instance? Do you feel like you wouldn't be welcomed to the school's sporting events? Have you simply never been exposed to athletics or do you feel completely out of your comfort zone when the word 'sport' is even mentioned? Whatever your reasoning, and trust me, I'm positive I've heard every excuse for not turning up known to mankind, unless you have a real conflict, be it work, school, or health related, you should really try to get out to at least a few games every semester.

There are so many benefits to taking a break from your everyday stresses and school work, and going out to see a game or meet. As a busy student myself, I understand how tired and worn out one is after a long day of classes and studies. However, as a cheerleader, I can tell you from personal experience how beneficial it is to get out of your dorm room and head out to a game. It not only allows you to blow off some steam, but it's also a great way to meet new people. Don't know the rules of a game you're watching? Ask someone nearby you. In all likelihood, they'll be happy and willing to help you understand what's going on.

I think I can safely state that most Hillsdale College students are excited to attend the school and are deeply proud of our little 'city on a hill,' to paraphrase John Winthrop. We have a lot to be proud of, and that includes our athletes and athletic teams. So get out, get pumped, and show a little spirit!

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
