With how this generation is growing up, we need our grandparents' guidance more than ever.
I’m not saying this generation is bad or that we won’t support ourselves when we’re in charge, but Lord knows we’re not on the perfect track right now. I try and talk to my grandparents every week or so (my grandpa likes to write letters to me, so that’s one form of communication). I can’t stress enough how important communication is to the elderly. This article isn’t just about your own set of grandparents, it’s about the elderly everywhere. Do you know how important they are? You can agree all you want, but the sad truth is this—we don’t have time for them anymore.
Social media is growing fast and strong, and we all communicate faster than we had ever imagined. I can talk to someone from England just as fast as I can with someone in America. But do you know who isn’t on social media? Who doesn’t know how you’re doing from your constant Instagram posts? Your grandparents. Unless your grandparents understand social media and how a phone works (which is not too many), there are very limited ways to reach out to them and let them know how you’re doing. I’ll name them: writing letters, a phone call, or VISIT THEM. I am a total hypocrite when it comes to this way of communication. I am always on the run, wanting to do anything other than go over to my grandparents and talk for 3 hours. But when I think about them not being around for much longer, my heart aches of guiltiness. So, my generation, buck up and talk to your grandparents about school. Or about your job, or about just how you’re doing. Make sure they know you appreciate them because the elderly are getting lost in this generation of technology.
