Let yourself grow.

You don't realize how much has changed in your life until you find the time to reflect on it.

Change is inevitable and it is hard. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad but it always comes unexpectedly. College is probably the biggest time for it and holds thousands of different paths for you to take.

First starting college is a new chapter in itself. It's a moment you worked twelve years for and what many people around you expect that you continue with for your education. But no one ever tells you that it's not just entering college as a whole that's a new beginning, but each semester as well.

Whether it's coming back from summer or winter break, there is something unique about each semester. You can catch up with old friends and make new ones, join clubs or do things you never thought you'd do. This can only lead to entirely different roads and could very much shape the person you'll become.

A new beginning doesn't have to be big. It doesn't have to always be grand or ending some pivotal phase in your life. Sometimes new beginnings come from the people you meet and the experiences you go through in your normal day.

Now going into my third year of college, I had no idea how different life would be when I began. I know that certain circumstances I've experienced in college (and should I even mention the amount of work) I would not have been able to handle years ago.

College isn't one entire chapter. It's a story of multiple chapters portion into one part of your life. There will be cherished beginnings, bitter endings, mature decisions and reckless mistakes. The best part about it is that each is a chance to make something of it.

And perhaps the most rewarding part of knowing all this is that this is finally the time to shape yourself into the person you want to be. The friends you are meant to be with will stick with you. The events that are meant to happen will happen, whether you want them to or not.

Look forward to each semester because no two are ever the same. If you find yourself thinking about how much things have changed, remark on it as a good thing. You are meant to grow and become a new person by the end.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
