Depression is a common yet severe mood disorder which causes serious symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle day to day activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working. Living with depression is a hard and strenuous task that people often tend to go through alone. Which can cause the person living with depressions symptoms to get seemingly more serious as they are left to push through it alone.
(The photo above shows are more in depth explanation of the number of people around the world suffering from depression)
For example, say you are at the bottom of a hill, and you need to push a large rock up the hill, this by itself is a difficult task but now imagine you have a broken arm. Do you think you would be able to push the rock up the hill by yourself without causing more damage to your broken arm? No, right? Now imagine that you have someone with you, even just one person helping you push the rock. You would most likely have a much easier time, and you lessen the chance of getting hurt, right? Well, having depression is kind of like having a broken bone, but it's not as noticeable to those around you. Leaving those who suffer from it hurting and vulnerable. So why would you go through this alone? If you or someone you know are suffering from depression I would like to stress to you the importance of finding someone to talk to, and or being the person someone can come to talk to.
(The photo above is giving some basic information on depression as well as some ways to get help or help others)
"Statistics on depression suggests that It affects around 120 million people worldwide and causes over 850,000 deaths a year." as said by http://www.depressionhelps.com/depression-statisti.... Many of these deaths are a result of suicide, which is a sad yet true fact. This being said there are ways to help in preventing more of this from happening.
If you are suffering from depression or have suicidal thoughts or tendencies, it's in your best interest to find someone you can trust to talk to. Like how I explained earlier with the example of the rock it's important to find someone to help you so that you don't run the risk of getting hurt more. So if you are struggling from either of these things, please talk to someone in your family, friend, or anyone you can trust so that you can get help to start feeling better. But, if you know someone who is suffering from depression or suicidal thoughts there are a few things you can do to help. You can talk to them and be someone who will listen to them. If you want to be someone people can talk to make sure to be more helpful than judgmental. Try suggesting to the person you are helping to speak to a counselor if possible because professional help is needed at times. You can also tell an adult if you don't think you can help them as much as they need. Its so incredibly important to find someone to help if you or someone you know are suffering from depression to keep them safe. So please keep this in mind and do what's the best for yourself, and those around you.
