The Importance of Being Kind

Kindness is one of the most underrated things in the world. People don't understand the power that it can hold. The world is filled with a plethora of unsavory things, things that just make us want to stay inside all day, and escape into a world of netflix. However, one of the few things that helps us get out of bed in the morning is the act of pure human decency. Without that, the world would not be the same, not even close. Sometimes we all get in moods when we aren't happy all the time, or stressed to the point that we forget to be kind. We forget that other people could be feeling as much strain as us or possibly even worse. The reality is, when you are kind to someone else even when you feel like the world is against you you'll probably feel better than if you acted cruel or rude towards them. I'm not saying you have to go out of your way to be the next mother Teresa or anything, but maybe just smile at the people you make awkward eye contact with instead of scowl, or hold the door for someone behind you instead of letting t slam in their face. Say thank you to someone you know has deserved it, ask someone if they are okay if they look a little down. The simplest things could change the outlook on a person's day. While it is important to be kind to others, its as important if not a teensy bit more to be kind to yourself as well. I think we all know someone or we are that person who does so much for others, or wears themselves so thin with balancing everything in their life that they forget to be kind to themselves. Make sure you take time to appreciate the things you've done and what you are proud of. Be gentle with yourself, don't think about the fact you haven't achieved your goals just yet, if its taking longer than you thought thats okay. Do not give up on yourself, you are the person that can hold you back the most, so don't let yourself. Give yourself breaks, you don't need to do everything at once, let yourself take time to do something you want to do, even if that just means watching funny videos on your phone. It is important to be kind, because it is important to be happy. If our main goal in life isn to to be happy whats even the point. Kindness can start a chain reaction, if you are kind to yourself, there is a good chance you will gain the ability to be kind to others as well. When people are kind to you, it makes you want to be kind to others, I think it most situations chain reactions are caused by something bad or embarrassing happening to another person. If we all channelled that power into something good something kind, think of how different the world would be.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
