In American history, we have had several movements and changes to our society in an attempt to practice social equality. The abolishment of slavery, civil rights movement and new marriage laws have all been instrumental in moving us close to a truly equal world, but the rest of the work must be done by individual people, not central government powers. Our generation must learn to change our attitudes. We’ve got to be accepting of others so they will be accepting of us. We need to work as a global community to accept and cherish others for their differences, rather than letting them drive us apart.
The history we’re making right now is quite grim. Violence at political rallies, mass shootings, genocide, terrorism, etc. It seems to be getting worse with time, and will only continue to do so until we take action to end the prejudice fueling these hate crimes.
This generation is the future of the world. It is our responsibility to promote acceptance and equality, because we are running out of positivity to believe in, safe havens to live in and hope to hold on to. Instead, we need to learn to love people for their differences: their ideas, opinions, hopes, dreams, fears and worries, because those are the valuable things to know and treasure; these are the qualities we should share more of. We will never truly be an ‘equal rights’ planet if we cannot acknowledge our planet as an equal playing field for all. I think we have the potential to make that change. One person at a time, we can end prejudice and move forward as a social community.
People should be characterized by their accomplishments, sincerity, integrity and knowledge, not by their alleged negative stereotype. The people we grow into are shaped by our interactions, experiences and environments in the present. If we are all treated like we are lesser to others, how will we ever believe in ourselves? How can our present become a notable history? If people are not encouraged to believe in themselves, then we are massacring extreme potential for the future leaders of our world. Everyone is equally capable of making a change in the world, no matter their identification, race, nor religion. We must encourage those of all walks of life to believe in themselves, because we all live on the same planet that needs the peace and prosperity change can bring. Let’s change history. Let’s finally reach our potential and be great.
