I Own Too Many T-shirts

So, I made them into a quilt.

For the past few months I have embarked on the journey known as the t-shirt quilt. I know, so stereotypical! Sorority girl graduates and cries about how much she misses her chapter then makes a t-shirt quilt to commemorate all the amazing formals, date parties, philanthropy events and sisterhoods! So I have been saying since May that I was going to start on my quilt, May was about two months ago so I guess I am working on a decent timeline (not really). Well it's July and I have finally done it! I know I am so proud of myself too. By done it, I mean I have started I am no where near done with this quilt.

So first things first, the cutting begins. Cutting up every Chi Omega t-shirt I have is really hard. Like really hard, I didn't think it would be but I did have to stop a couple of times and reminisce. It was difficult because I have spent my whole college career in these shirts, like every single day (that's all I wore, yeah I was that girl). So there is a lot of cutting, a lot, a lot more than you would think. I even got a blister on one of my fingers from all the cutting. That wasn't very fun, but eventually I finished cutting the shirts.

On top of all that there is a talent to the cutting. You have to make sure every thing is cut properly. There has to be straight edges and lines. If not your quilt will probably look a bit of a mess. I messed up a lot and had to cut closer and closer to my design and that kind of frustrated me. This means that when I go to sew the shirts together it will be sewn very close to the design and sometimes that looks a little ratchet.

Luckily I took a good 4-8 day break after cutting all of my designs so I got to rest up for the next part of making my t-shirt quilt. By taking a break I mean I stopped and haven't really picked it back up because I am the worlds best procrastinator. I guess all the cutting got to me and just made me really tired (lol).

Next up is putting all of the shirts out and seeing how I am going to position them and create this awesome t-shirt quilt. I am very sure I will have to cut more shirts because I think you have to have a certain amount so the shirt looks even. I know I said I cut up all the shirts I have but I did save about five of my favorite ones to wear on lazy days. Follow me on this journey and stay tuned next week for more progress. Hopefully more progress will mean I finished the quilt.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
