The Hunts are an indie-folk band comprised of 7 brothers and sisters from Chesapeake, Virginia. I have had the pleasure and privilege of seeing them perform four times! I have always said that someday they are gonna be super famous and their concerts will be expensive, so I am going to see them now as many times as I can. They are super talented and very exciting to watch!
After each concert, I have left feeling uplifted. Their music causes you to feel soothed and comfortable, while also feeling excited and joyful. The way that they play so many instruments has always blown me away. Each one of them can play at least three different instruments. The combinations of banjo, piano, mandolin, violin, guitar, drums, accordion, and even on one occasion, a chair, create the beautiful music that they play. I can't talk about their instruments and not mention their voices. Their voices are each unique and wonderful and they sound so smooth when they blend together. Also, they often use a whistling element in their songs, which is really impressive to me as someone who cannot whistle!
One of a unique things about The Hunts is how personable they are. There have been three times after I saw them perreform that I was then able to go out for ice cream or Taco Bell with them. I'm pretty sure that is not a normal thing for bands to do! It made them seem so much more real and it caused me to appreciate their music and their stories so much more. Also, I was able to catch a drumstick that they threw into the crowd once and I had it signed by all seven of them. From the last time I saw them when I caught the drumstick to now, I can already tell that they are gaining popularity. Because now instead of just throwing out a drumstick, you have to buy it for $15. This tells me that they are on their way up and that is exciting!
For the past three or so years that I have known of The Hunts, their music has always been a go-to. I worked in a coffee shop for two years and their music was often the only thing that we played. I went on a road trip last year from Tennessee to California and their CD was definitely one of my jams on the road. I cannot wait for their new music to come out because I know that it will be just as incredible as their last album!
I am so thankful to Freed-Hardeman for introducing me to this amazing band and for continuing to have them on campus for free events! I can only hope that I will get to hear them again someday!
