Republicans! Liberals! Trump! Oh my! I’m sure you’ve all heard these buzzwords at least once or twice this election season. They're everywhere. On every billboard, Television ad, and news crawl the nation is all abuzz about the current presidential election. But where does that leave people like myself? A person who accepts the positive aspects of both political parties, notes their negatives, and has a few new ideas of his own. Is there any solace for such a fringe voter like myself?
People like me do not subscribe to any political party. They’re viewed in our minds as not only inefficient, but they’re also logistically impossible to support. There is no way that a single group of people have an answer for every single situation that would require political intervention, no possible solution than can be singularly answered by the Democrats, the Libertarians, the Republicans or any one of them. Especially, in a society so multicultural as the United States of America it is impossible that one group has all the answers, has even close to a panacea for all the nation’s political problems.
The best example is that of a grocery store. You go to a grocery store to get the food you need to survive. However, when you get to the checkout aisle there are two people standing there and they select different things from your cart and put them into two separate piles. The clerk then says to you that “You can only purchase one of these piles.” However, each pile has things that you wanted. One has your bread, the other has your milk, and you can only purchase one set of groceries.
This nation’s two main political parties are the exact same way. I can either have a literal interpretation of the second amendment or a woman’s right to her own body. I am forced to choose between people accepting responsibility or social programs for the disadvantage. There is no way for a person who is interested in the thriving of this country and the better treatment of people as fellow human beings to align themselves with any political party, since all the ‘party’ is concerned about is moving forward on their specific agenda.
But then what are humanitarians supposed to do at the voting booths? Not vote? Why voting is seen as a sign by most as a slap in your face to your rights as an American! Did you know that there are countries where the citizens are not allowed to vote?! How dare you affront the men and women who died overseas for your basic right to vote! All of these phrases used so virulently against people who would rather not vote than see their country choose politics over people.
This leaves the person who is not voting Democrat or Republican or Libertarian or Green in quite a bind. On the one hand they certainly wouldn’t want to offend the men and women who died overseas, and they certainly wouldn’t want to tarnish the memory of what our founding fathers fought for, but at the same time, they also want to see the best results done for the most amount of people which politics and polarization rarely accomplishes.
I guess the only answer for those people--the people who care about net good for their fellow humans. The people who care about protecting and preserving the inalienable rights that are bestowed by our creator? What can be said for these people in this trying political circus? The answer is simple my friends, the answer is to Vote Odin 2016!
