Mohonk Mountain House is a resort poised along the banks of Lake Mohonk in the Hudson Valley. Only 90 miles north of New York City, Mohonk is a national historic landmark.
Ever since I was three years old, my family has gone to Mohonk. It was a tradition we all loved. Being 20 now, and currently at Mohonk, I wanted to share why Mohonk is a vacation you all need to take.
1. History.
Starting as a 10-room inn and tavern, Mohonk evolved into the grand house it is today. If you walk down the hallways, there are pictures of the Smiley family. Each tells a different story.
Mohonk is really big on escaping, and not wanting you to be plugged in. The rooms don't have televisions. Mohonk is very family-oriented. I remember playing board games with my family each year. I was the Sorry champ every year!
2. Beauty.
Words can not describe Mohonk's beauty. So, I'll just let the above pictures do the talking!
3. Hikes.
Mohonk has 85 miles of hiking trails. Many come up for the day just to hike. My favorite is the Lemon Squeeze. It's intense, but the views are totally worth it!
4. Activities.
Mohonk has it all, and is open all year round. From bonfires to tennis, from golf to horseback riding, Mohonk is the place to be. If you want to go bike riding you can, if you want to swim across the lake, you can. If you want to enjoy their award-winning spa, you can. Mohonk has everything for all ages!
My family loved laying on the docks. We could buy fish food and feed the fish.5. Joy.
From the moment you check in, everyone is saying "Hello!"
Going to Kids Camp for many years, the counselors were always happy. I think that was a big reason of why we kept coming back. Mohonk brought so much joy to our lives.
Founded by Albert Smiley in 1869, Mohonk Mountain House will have everyone smiling while they are here.
