A Rather long dictionary definition, illustration is the ardor process of producing or providing a drawing , photograph, or diagram the accompanies and complements a printed, spoken or electronic text. Illustrative art ask the viewer to do one thing: look at me. Illustration must usually answer the important questions of who, what, when, where and why for the viewer. However Cover Illustration focus mainly on who and what, Giving a brief synopsis of what the book or object will be discussing. We can also define Illustration as art with a definite purpose.

The oldest book that has come down to us is an Egyptian papyrus roll of about 1980 B.C. There were books on astronomy and magic , animal and fables and erotica. Most importantly they were perticullarly dependent on illustration with no text. Throughout the next thousands of years cover illustration will take a drastic change. It will evolve into an idiguidly strong movement stretching into France , England, Africa, japan and many other influential parts around the globe.

Change began to occur in how a book might be covered In the 1820s, with the gradual introduction of techniques for mechanical book- binding. Cloth and later paper, became the staple materials used as books. It became more affordable, due to the introduction of steam-

powered presses and mechanically produced paper. Artists gradually infiltrated the book industry, as did the professional practice of graphic design. A book cover became more than just a protection but taking on the function of advertising, and communicating information about the text provided inside. In the post-war era, book covers became very important as the book industry became commercially competitive with the rest of the world.

Novels have provided an especially rich field for book cover design. A book’s cover is the first thing a potential reader sees and it can make a lasting impression. A great cover also makes a things easier to market. Cover illustration is booming in the current year of 2015. Designer all over the world designing covers for products , so that they may sell and create a famous image as far as people remembering there name. creativity at its finest.
