My sister and I were walking out of Walmart a few days ago and I saw a woman struggling to get her children in the car while one was crying in her arms. I told my sister, “At least I’m not that mom.” Immediately when I said that I felt a pang of guilt. I knew inside that I could have helped her instead of talking about her. My sister said, “Why don’t we help her? That’s what we’re called to do. Let’s put our stuff in the car, and we’ll pass by her car to see if she still needs help.” We passed by her car and she had all of the children settled. In my head, I was hoping she wouldn't need help anymore because I really didn't feel like helping her. We then drove off because we saw that she wasn't struggling anymore. God then reminded of the verse in Matthew 20:28 that says, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
We cannot let our feelings overrule what God wants us to do. What if Jesus did not feel like going to the cross and dying for our sins? We have to serve others just as Jesus served us. We are called to serve the same people that Jesus came to save. Let’s put our pride down and strive to be like Jesus. He wants us to care for the unfortunate and hurting. It is what we are called to do. Be encouraged by this. Do not think about, “What if people think I am weird for going out of my way to help that one person?” As Blake Whiteley said in one of his songs, “If loving you is weird, then I’m trying to be the weirdest.” When you truly love and serve Jesus, you will be seen as someone “different.” It’s okay. The opinions of people do not matter. What God thinks of you is what matters the most. He is all-knowing, and He knows what you are capable of doing. He knows each and every one of us are capable to help others in some way. Do not despise small beginnings either. What you do for someone might seem small to you, but it could mean something to them.
One day when you stand before Jesus, will He consider you His good and faithful SERVANT?
