The Headache Piercing: Hoax Or Truth?

Can a piercing actually help with headaches or even migraines?

So as many of you have probably seen around the internet there have been many claims that there is a so called "headache piercing" and they are supposed to help with migraines and headaches. This piercing is called a daith and this is my story about the headache piercing.

When I first saw these claims I didn't really believe them, but at the time, I also wasn't having trouble with headaches. About a month into my sophomore year of college, I started having headaches everyday. I would wake up with them and go to sleep with them and I'm pretty sure I had the same one for a month and a half straight. My life starting to revolve around whether or not I had Tylenol in my purse or backpack. My headaches got to the point of me taking three Tylenol which barely even touched the pain. So I started looking up alternatives and of course the daith piercing popped up. I read many peoples stories about how it helped with their chronic migraines. I even asked a friend who got hers pierced and she said it helped and hers wasn't even done correctly. So I finally decided to give it a shot. If anything I'd leave with a new piercing right?

So I grabbed my wallet and went to a tattoo place to get it done, I also had about a level 6 headache when I went in. While I was there I was still kind of skeptical but went through with it. I had almost immediate relief from the headache that I had had all day, I finally felt normal.

The reason it's supposed to help is because there is a pressure point where it's pierced, it's also recommend that you get it on the side that your headaches are usually on. For me my headaches usually hurt my whole head so I just went with my left side since I had my industrial in my right ear (not that it actually matters). I went without a headache for about three days after getting the piercing and then they started coming back, not as bad as before but still painful. I had gotten the first one on a Friday and the following Tuesday I went and got my second one done. I figured since the first had helped so much, it couldn't hurt to get the second one done either. I have now had both for over a week and have been headache free the entire time.

Where it's pierced is cartilage but on a scale of one to ten I would rate it about a 3 - 3.5, compared to my nose stud, my septum and my industrial, my daith piercings hurt the least so if you've had any of these done, the daith hardly compares to the pain of the others. Also if you do go to get it done, remember to relax and not be tense, that will also help. I was very relaxed for the first one and kind of tensed on the second one and the second one hurt a little bit more.

I am in no way saying that this will definitely help you, but it certainly helped me so it's worth a shot in my opinion. All in all I spent $40 for both piercings but prices will vary depending on where you go.

I hope this article helped you if you are trying to decide whether or not to get it, this is how I thought about it. $40 later and now I'm not putting harmful chemicals or damaging my organs in the long run everyday. It's worth a try.

Happy piercing!

I'll admit it, I have a condition called RBF or, if you will, Resting Bitch Face.

Anna Kendrick, poor Kristen Stewart, the Queen of England are all life-long sufferers of RBF. Victoria Beckham even made a career out of it! And though it's usually used to describe women, some men are also afflicted. Kanye West is the best example of this.

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
