Netflix and Hulu are two of my favorite platforms to alternate between and have gotten me through the better part of my college career. I have binge-watched many shows on Netflix before I discovered the wonders of Hulu. Some of my favorite shows on Netflix that I have binge-watched in the past are: American Horror Story, Black Mirror, Breaking Bad, Scandal, and Parks and Recreation. I did not discover Hulu until I was a senior in college when I had a job on campus and decided that I now felt like paying the $7.99/month to stream the service, which ended up being $4.99/month because of the Spotify college discount bundle I ended up getting. Hulu allowed me to discover many wonderful TV shows that I would not have found otherwise, such as The Path and Rick and Morty.
However, there are three shows that I am obsessed with right now, that consume my free time. They are The Haves and the Have Nots, Bodyguard, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The Haves and the Have Nots is a soap opera about two families, the Cryers and the Harringtons. Jim Cryer is a former judge and aspiring governor who has a daughter with mental illness and a son with drug issues. The Cryers are close friends with the Harringtons, with David Harrington being Jim Cryer's running mate in the race for governor. Jim Cryer is having an affair with Candace Young, a storyline from which much of the drama in the television series stems from. David Harrington and Veronica Harrington have a son, Jeffery Harrington, who comes out as gay, which is a source of conflict between David and Veronica. This show is a must-watch if you love constant drama and cliffhangers.
Bodyguard is a show on Netflix, based in London, about a former war veteran, David Budd, who is now a security expert assigned to protect the home secretary, who *spoiler alert* ends up being killed in a bomb explosion. The rest of the show plays out as police and detectives try to figure out the people involved in the plot to take out the home secretary and whether or not David Budd played a role in the explosion. This show is definitely fast-paced and action-packed and requires your full undivided attention.
The last show I currently watch is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, a comedy about a girl named Kimmy who is rescued from a bunker after being held captive with three other women by a crazed reverend, for fifteen years, who convinced them that doomsday had wiped the rest of humanity off the planet and left them as the sole survivors. After being rescued, Kimmy meets Titus, a flamboyant aspiring actor, and singer, Lillian, their goofball landlady, and Jacqueline, a wealthy yet insecure socialite who hires Kimmy as her nanny. Kimmy must catch up to speed with the world as it exists now, which is in stark contrast to how it was when she was kidnapped fifteen years ago. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is heartfelt and maintains a uniquely odd and quirky sense of humor.
