Here's A Spoiler-Free Review Of 'The Haunting Of Hill House'

Why do I think this is the best series of the year? Perhaps the best scary creation of all time?

I want to start out saying that I am a Halloween fanatic. I love haunted houses, haunted trails, scary movies, scary TV shows, and basically anything else you could think of. I love being scared, so I knew going into this I was going to love this show. Before watching it, I did read the reviews and they were all incredible. With a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 9/10 on IMDb, I went into this show with a very positive outlook.

There were a few actors I recognized almost instantly. Michiel Huisman from "Game of Thrones", Elizabeth Reaser from "Twilight", Oliver Jackson-Cohen from "Emerald City", James Lafferty from "One Tree Hill" and more. Most Netflix series do have lesser known actors, but they really stepped it up with everyone in this one specifically.

Now, about the content itself. It does have the makings of a really good scary movie with the jump scares and suspense. You will hide for a good amount of the show, but for me, that's what I love. Not only that, it has the vibe of "Paranormal Activity". There are moments when the door slams shut, or when the blanket slides off the sleeping kid with nobody else in the room.

Through the series as well, you flashback between the same family so when they're talking about something in current time, you quickly learn what it means when they go back to the past and show you the meaning of their conversation or a situation that happened. The show does an incredible job of not leaving you confused and in the dark during each episode.

I believe what made this show so well received is the story on its own. You get to know the characters, you watch them grow and thrive or not thrive in life, you connect with them through their struggles in life. Over time you become the characters, and it makes it that much more magnetic and binge-worthy. I knew that I couldn't stop thinking about finishing the show when I was at work or school.

Now, everything about the series is incredible but the ending... that's what made it so successful. In most movies and shows people end up dying without reason and the monster lives on, but this ending was meaningful and tied the whole show together. The ending won't ruin the series for you. You won't walk away unsatisfied or angry. It truly was the best ending to any show I've seen before.

All of the reasons above are why I truly suggest getting on Netflix and watching "The Haunting of Hill House" even if you don't like scares. The series isn't about making you jump out of your seat or hiding underneath your blanket. It's about the story and the characters that make the show so irresistible

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
